Want American Traditional food? Well, you can’t get more traditional than bison and walleye. That’s what we ordered when we visited Eichten’s Bistro. This out of town place used to be a cheese store, sandwich deli and gift shop. It still is but it is also a pretty decent bistro. The Filet Mignon of Bison was tender and full flavored with a red wine mushroom (crimini) sauce. The walleye was very lightly coated with crunchy breading. We ordered a mussel appetizer and they were very tasty in a nice broth, the only flaw being the octopus garnish which was a bit tough. The salad was Spring Greens with a tangy Balsamic Dressing. The vegetable was asparagus accompanied by some cauliflower. The asparagus was unadorned and perfectly prepared, purely excellent. The cauliflower was overdone but who cares when you get perfect asparagus. The beer list was extensive but the wine list sparse. We enjoyed the casual but intimate ambience and classic blues. The dessert was a rhubarb custard pie that was delicious even though the bottom crust was just a bit soggy. The service was great, our waiter was friendly and efficient. We recommend this restaurant, the flaws were minor. |
